Malaysia Becomes Southeast Asia’s Most Visited Country in 2025

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia has officially emerged as the most visited country in Southeast Asia in 2025, welcoming an impressive 38.3 million international visitors within the first 11 months of the year.

The milestone places Malaysia ahead of regional tourism heavyweights such as Thailand and Vietnam, signaling a strong rebound and sustained growth in the nation’s travel industry.

Industry observers attribute the surge to several key factors. Malaysia’s visa-friendly policies — including extended visa exemptions for Chinese travelers — have significantly boosted arrivals. Improved flight connectivity, expanded airport capacity, and competitive travel costs have also made the country increasingly attractive to global tourists.

Major destinations driving the numbers include the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, known for its iconic skyline and cultural diversity, as well as island getaways like Langkawi and heritage-rich George Town.

Tourism experts note that Malaysia’s strategic positioning as a safe, affordable, and culturally diverse destination has helped it capture travelers who may have reconsidered other regional options due to weather disruptions and safety concerns.

With momentum building toward 2026, travel demand is expected to remain strong, though visitors are encouraged to book early as accommodation and flight prices continue to rise amid high demand.
