Tragic Kelantan Crash: BMW Hits Six‑Seater Myvi, Two Dead

KUALA KRAI, Kelantan, March 18, 2026 — A serious traffic collision in Kelantan has claimed two lives and left several others injured after a Perodua Myvi carrying six passengers was struck by a BMW on a federal road late last night. The tragic crash has sparked renewed calls from authorities for heightened road vigilance.

According to the Kelantan traffic police chief, the incident occurred at approximately 10:30 pm on a stretch of federal highway near Kampung (village) [specific location withheld pending investigation]. The Myvi, which was traveling with six occupants, was reportedly hit by a BMW travelling in the same direction.

“Initial reports indicate a violent impact between the two vehicles,” a police spokesperson told reporters. “The force of the collision was severe, causing significant damage to both vehicles and leading to multiple casualties at the scene.”

Casualties and Injuries

Emergency responders arrived swiftly after multiple distress calls were made, discovering the Myvi in a heavily damaged state. Two occupants of the Myvi — identified as males in their 20s — were pronounced dead at the scene due to critical injuries sustained in the crash.

Several other passengers were rushed to Tengku Anis Hospital in Kuala Krai for urgent medical treatment, with some reported to be in serious condition. Details on their identities and injuries are pending family notification.

The driver of the BMW suffered minor injuries and was treated at the same hospital before being taken into police custody for questioning.

Police Investigation Underway

Kelantan traffic police have classified the incident as a road traffic collision investigation and are currently gathering evidence to determine the precise cause of the crash. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage, conducting forensic vehicle assessments, and interviewing witnesses who may have observed the collision.

“The key focus is to establish fault and determine whether any traffic offences — such as speeding, reckless driving, or impaired driving — were involved,” the traffic chief said.

Police have also appealed to motorists and bystanders with video footage or information related to the incident to assist with the investigation, emphasising that even seemingly minor details could be crucial.

Road Safety Context

This tragedy comes amid broader concerns over road safety in Malaysia, where traffic collisions remain a leading cause of fatalities. Authorities have reiterated ongoing campaigns to remind drivers about responsible driving, adherence to speed limits, and avoiding distractions behind the wheel.

Experts say that collisions involving high‑speed impacts — especially between larger engine vehicles and smaller passenger cars — often result in severe outcomes, underlining the importance of safety features such as seatbelts, vehicle maintenance, and cautious driving practices.

Community Reaction and Support

Local leaders and community groups have expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, urging collective efforts to improve road safety awareness. Some community members are advocating for increased safety checks and stricter enforcement of traffic laws, particularly on high‑risk routes known for frequent accidents.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the victims’ families and pray for the recovery of those injured,” said a representative from a local road safety advocacy group.

As investigations continue, authorities are expected to release periodic updates on the crash findings and any legal actions arising from the incident. Meanwhile, the community and road users have been reminded of the critical importance of defensive driving and compliance with traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies on Malaysian roads.
