NEW DELHI, El Sky News — An explosion near the Red Fort in India’s capital city has killed at least eight people and injured 11 others, according to authorities. The incident occurred in the densely populated old city area of New Delhi, close to a metro station.
Officials said the blast originated from a car parked near the Red Fort. The explosion caused several vehicles to catch fire, including at least six cars and three autorickshaws. Emergency services and firefighters were deployed to the scene shortly after the blast.
A witness described the moment of the explosion, saying, “We heard a big sound, our windows shook.”
The cause of the explosion has not yet been confirmed. Investigations are currently underway to determine whether it was accidental or deliberate.
The Red Fort, one of India’s most iconic landmarks and a major tourist destination, is a symbol of the country’s history. The area is usually crowded with locals and tourists, especially during weekends.
Authorities have cordoned off the site, and police have urged the public to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
