Man sentenced to three years in prison for injuring sister’s partner with a machete

Seremban, El Sky News – A man was handed a three-year prison sentence after being found guilty of injuring his sister’s partner with a machete during a domestic dispute. The court found that the attack caused notable injuries to the victim, leading to legal action that has been ongoing since the incident occurred.

During the proceedings, the judge acknowledged the seriousness of the assault, especially because it involved the use of a dangerous weapon. The prosecution emphasized the gravity of the harm caused, while the defence attempted to mitigate the sentence by highlighting the accused’s personal circumstances.

Although the court imposed a custodial sentence of three years, a stay of execution was granted. This means the accused will not immediately begin serving his prison term while legal processes—such as the possibility of appeal—are still open to him. The court also revised the bail conditions, raising the bail amount from RM7,000 to RM15,000 to ensure compliance with the legal requirements during the period of suspension.

The case has drawn attention due to the nature of the violence and its connection to a family conflict. It also demonstrates the courts’ stance on weapon-related assaults, especially when such incidents occur within close personal relationships. The decision reflects the judiciary’s effort to balance the severity of the offense with the need to provide a fair opportunity for the accused to pursue further legal channels.

With the sentencing now formalized, the accused remains bound by the stricter bail terms while awaiting the next phase of the legal process. The victim, meanwhile, continues to recover from the injuries sustained during the attack.
