Suicide Bomber Strikes Outside Islamabad Court, Killing 12

Pakistan, El Sky News — A suicide bomber detonated explosives beside a police vehicle outside the district court in Islamabad, killing at least 12 people and injuring dozens, according to Pakistani authorities.

The attacker reportedly tried to enter the court premises on foot but, failing to do so, carried out the explosion next to the police car parked at the gate. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the bomber waited at the entrance for about 12 minutes before triggering the blast.

Approximately 27 to 36 people were injured in the attack, many of them seriously. First responders rushed the wounded to nearby hospitals amid scenes of panic and chaos.

Jamaat-ul-Ahrar Claims Responsibility
A faction of the Pakistani Taliban, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA), initially claimed responsibility. However, the group’s internal unity is reportedly fractured: one commander, Sarbakaf Mohmand, later denied the attack in separate messages.

Link to Afghanistan
The Pakistani government has pointed to a possible connection with Afghanistan. According to Interior Minister Naqvi, the bombers are believed to be Afghan nationals, fueling long-standing concerns that militants are using Afghan territory as a base.

Political Repercussions
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack as “the worst example of … destabilizing terrorism” and called for a full investigation. Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif described the incident as a “wake-up call,” declaring that Pakistan is in a state of war.

Security Measures Intensified
In response, security forces have sealed off the court area, stepped up patrols, and launched an investigation. Authorities are now examining all possible links, including transnational militant networks.

International Reaction
The attack has drawn global condemnation. Countries such as the United States, China, and Saudi Arabia have expressed solidarity with Pakistan, while the United Nations called for a full and transparent inquiry.
