Kota Bharu Police Arrest Couple Behind Series of Car Break-ins

KOTA BHARU, El Sky News — Authorities in Kelantan have arrested a couple suspected of orchestrating multiple car break-ins in Kota Bharu, resulting in losses exceeding RM100,000 over recent months.

The male suspect, aged 47, and his 36-year-old partner were taken into custody last Saturday evening following a police operation in front of a shop on Jalan Sri Cemerlang. The arrests came shortly after a reported break-in on Jalan Wakaf Mek Zainab.

Police seized several items believed to be linked to the crimes, including laptops, mobile phones, cash, a vehicle, and burglary tools. Investigators stated that the suspects specifically targeted parking areas lacking security cameras. Both also admitted to training others to commit similar offenses.

Drug tests conducted on the suspects returned positive results. Officials said that the arrests may help resolve at least 21 cases of car window break-ins reported across the city in the past few months.

Records indicate the male suspect has three prior criminal convictions related to narcotics and other offenses, while the female suspect has no previous criminal record. Both are now held on a four-day remand as the investigation continues under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
