Malaysian Influencer Slams ‘Lazy’ and Misogynistic Views on Wives’ Roles

Kuala Lumpur, El Sky News – A video posted on social media has gone viral, featuring Malaysian influencer and actress Mek Yun (Wee Yun Nee) delivering a sharp rebuke against outdated and degrading views on the role of women, particularly within marriage and family. The video specifically addresses a statement made by a man who claimed a wife’s only duties are to “clean the house and provide sexual service”, and who dismissed husbands who help change diapers as “lazy.”

Outdated Mentality Breeds Disrespect

In her video, Mek Yun argues that this kind of mentality is the “reason why many women lose respect for men”. She sharply questioned the era from which the man’s mindset originated, highlighting the unrealistic nature of such claims in the modern age.

According to her, limiting a woman’s role to just these two duties is a shallow and dismissive view that fails to acknowledge the contribution of contemporary women.

The Modern Woman: A Multidimensional Contributor

Mek Yun emphasized the capabilities of today’s women, which far surpass the narrow stereotype. She detailed that modern women are able to build their own careers, manage the family, contribute to the household economy, maintain the emotional and mental well-being of their children and husbands, and still manage to take care of themselves.

She firmly rejected the idea that women are merely “the shadow of a man,” asserting that women are neither objects nor slaves.

Marriage is a Partnership, Not a Hierarchy

The video also redefined the responsible husband. A man who actively participates in household chores, such as changing diapers every day, is labeled by her as “a responsible man and husband” and “a mature man who understands that marriage is a partnership”.

Conversely, she described the man with the misogynistic mindset as someone who is “insecure and afraid that women are better than his own ego”, concluding that such a person is undeserving of being called an “alpha” or a “leader.”

A Call for Respect and Thought

Concluding her video, Mek Yun called upon men to “learn respect first” and “learn to think first” before normalizing or propagating ideas that degrade women. She ended with a powerful statement that women will not tolerate men who hold such stagnant and archaic mentalities.
