KUALA LUMPUR, El Sky News – The mystery surrounding the viral incident of a luxury SUV being driven dangerously has been solved after police confirmed that the male driver tested positive for three types of drugs during a urine screening. The man, believed to be in his 30s and driving a dark Range Rover Velar, was arrested after he surrendered to the police on Saturday evening, November 23, 2025.
Reckless Driving from Kuchai Lama to Sungai Besi Highway
The reckless driving incident first caught the attention of the public on Friday, November 22, 2025, when the vehicle was seen moving with its rear left tire completely destroyed. The vehicle was running on the bare metal rim, causing a loud, grating noise and sparking on the road surface.
The incident reportedly began in the Kuchai Lama intersection area, before the damaged vehicle proceeded to drive erratically on the Sungai Besi Highway.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the driver had initially stopped at a traffic light. Despite being advised by members of the public to halt his journey due to safety concerns, the driver refused. He was allegedly seen getting out of the vehicle briefly before getting back in and continuing his dangerous path, cutting solid lines and weaving, causing panic among other road users.
Official Police Statement and Further Investigation
The Head of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, confirmed the suspect’s arrest in a statement. The suspect allegedly claimed that his tire burst after hitting a large pothole and that he insisted on continuing the drive to rush home.
However, the urine screening conducted after the arrest found the suspect positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, and cannabis. This finding contradicts initial public assumptions of drunk driving and confirms the suspect was driving under the influence of illegal substances.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (RTA 1987) for driving recklessly and dangerously, as well as other relevant provisions related to driving under the influence of drugs. If convicted, the suspect faces mandatory fines and imprisonment.
Police have urged anyone with information or additional recordings of the incident that could assist the investigation to contact the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station or the nearest police station.
