Kuala Terengganu, El Sky News – A 63-year-old woman has reportedly lost her life savings totaling RM184,500 after being deceived by a phone scam involving claims that her son was hospitalized. The whereabouts of both her son and the scammer remain unknown.

According to Kuala Terengganu Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor, the victim lodged a police report at the Kuala Terengganu Police Station on the evening of the incident. The woman revealed that she had received a phone call from an unknown individual claiming that her son had been admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor and required financial assistance.

The scammer’s strategy proved successful, leading the victim to make 21 separate transactions between October 9 and November 24 to multiple bank accounts. When the victim traveled to Kuala Lumpur to confront the caller, she was informed that the individual was currently in India.

“Until now, the victim has neither found her son nor the person who contacted her,” said Azli. Realizing she had fallen victim to a scam, the woman filed a police report for the loss of RM184,500, which consisted of her personal savings. The case is currently being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
