A New Era of Digital Verification: MyJPJ and Malaysian Telcos Adopt MyDigital ID

Putrajaya, El Sky News – The nation’s aspiration to empower a single digital identity is increasingly becoming a reality. Malaysians are now set to witness a crucial phase in the digitalization of public and private services through the integration of MyDigital ID into key applications, starting with the official Road Transport Department (JPJ) application, MyJPJ.

This strategic move signals a major shift towards establishing a safer, more efficient, and easily accessible digital ecosystem, where one valid digital identity can be used across various platforms.

MyJPJ Takes the Lead, Effective February 1, 2026

Starting February 1, 2026, the MyJPJ application will make MyDigital ID the sole and mandatory login method for all users aged 18 and above. This means users will no longer need to remember different passwords or go through repetitive registration processes to access vital digital documents like the Malaysian Driving License (LMM) and Motor Vehicle License (LKM) within the application.

  • Primary Goal: The integration of MyDigital ID into MyJPJ is not merely to simplify login, but also to strengthen the level of security and reduce the risk of identity fraud. The biometric verification used in MyDigital ID ensures that only the actual owner can access their sensitive personal information.

Telcos Also Join the Digital Wave

In parallel with the public sector initiative, the private sector is not far behind. Reports confirm that several major telecommunication companies (telcos) in Malaysia have begun integrating MyDigital ID into their customer service processes, effective today, December 1, 2025.

This integration in the telco sector is expected to revolutionize several aspects, including:

  • New Number Registration: The process of registering a new mobile line is expected to become faster and more secure. Users can verify their identity using MyDigital ID without needing to submit physical copies of their Identification Card.
  • Change of Ownership/Plan: Managing accounts and making changes to plans or changes of ownership can be done online with a high level of verification.
  • Remote Authentication (e-KYC): Facilitating user identity verification when dealing with online customer service.

Security and the Future of Digital Identity

MyDigital ID, developed by the relevant government agency, functions as a biometrically verified digital identification, tied to the individual rather than solely to a physical document.

This step by JPJ and the telcos is a starting point. It is anticipated that more government agencies—such as EPF (KWSP), IRB (LHDN), and public health services—will follow suit in 2026. The successful implementation of this will place Malaysia alongside other developed nations that have successfully utilized a comprehensive digital identity system, creating a more orderly and user-oriented digital environment.

Malaysians are encouraged to register for their MyDigital ID as soon as possible to ensure smooth access to upcoming digital services.
