Kuala Lumpur, El Sky News — Malaysia continues to face the risk of natural disasters as the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issues a Continuous Heavy Rain warning at the Alert level, encompassing six states, with the focus of attention directed towards the preparations of the Johor State Government.
MetMalaysia today confirmed that weather forecasts indicate the potential for continuous heavy rain, thereby increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying areas.
Johor in the Most Risk-Prone Position
The Johor State Government has reportedly mobilized disaster management agencies to a maximum state of readiness. This is an immediate response following the anticipated combination of continuous rain and strong winds which could worsen the high tide situation.
Official sources stated that rescue teams and logistical assets such as boats and temporary evacuation centers (PPS) have been placed on standby, ensuring that aid can be rapidly channelled should water levels rise suddenly.
“Residents in areas identified as flood ‘hotspots’ are advised to obey the instructions of the authorities and be prepared to evacuate at any time. The safety of self and family is the priority,” said a local disaster agency spokesperson.
Thunderstorms Strike Klang Valley and West Coast
In addition to Johor, this severe weather warning also extends to several major states in Peninsular Malaysia. MetMalaysia informs that several districts in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perak, and Negeri Sembilan are also under close observation.
- Klang Valley (Kuala Lumpur & Selangor): Residents in the capital and surrounding areas are expected to face thunderstorms and heavy rain anticipated to last until this morning. This could lead to severe traffic congestion and flash floods in urban areas.
- Perak and Negeri Sembilan: Similar conditions are also expected, with local authorities already issuing warnings to road users to be extra careful, especially on hilly routes or areas prone to landslides.
The public is advised to constantly refer to official weather updates from MetMalaysia and follow local news developments. Early preparedness is crucial to prevent property loss and loss of life.
