KUALA LUMPUR, El Sky News – Malaysia has once again rocked the global electronic sports (e-sports) arena as the national team for the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) game successfully defended their World Champion title in the International Esports Federation (IESF) World Esports Championship (WEC) 2025, which recently concluded in Kuala Lumpur.
This brilliant achievement not only solidifies Malaysia’s position as one of the world’s MLBB superpowers, but it also serves as the best ‘tonic’ for the national team as they face the tough challenge at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand at the end of this month.
Malaysia Crowned Best Host & Champion
The organization of the WEC MLBB 2025 Grand Final, hosted by the Malaysia Electronic Sports Federation (MESF) in Kuala Lumpur, has received high praise from the International Esports Federation (IESF). IESF Secretary General, Boban Totovski, described Malaysia as “among the best hosts” to ever manage this world-class tournament.
The success of the organization, which gathered 168 athletes from 28 countries, is coupled with the success of the national team:
- Back-to-Back World Champions: The Malaysian men’s MLBB squad successfully defeated challengers from Cambodia with a clean 3-0 sweep in the final match, thus defending the title won in the 2024 edition.
- E-Sports Hub Consolidation: This double success confirms Malaysia’s standing not only as a competitive power but also as a high-class global e-sports hosting hub.
Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who also witnessed the final match, emphasized that the Government will continue to support the growth of e-sports as a future industry with great potential.
Gold Momentum at SEA Games 2025
With this great achievement on the world stage, the focus now shifts to a bigger mission: bringing home the inaugural gold medal for the MLBB event at the SEA Games 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand, scheduled to take place from December 13 to 17.
National Head Coach, Michael Bocado (known as Arcadia), reportedly stated that the WEC 2025 success came at the perfect time and injected high confidence into his squad.
The Malaysian Men’s and Women’s MLBB teams will field the best lineups that have gone through a rigorous selection process. Previously, the men’s team won a silver medal, while the women’s team brought home bronze at the last edition of the SEA Games.
MESF President, Muhammad Naim Al-Amin, expressed confidence that the selected players and coaches are the best to shoulder the national challenge, with a clear mission—to prove that the capability of national e-sports athletes is on par with global challengers.
These successive achievements not only bring honor to Malaysia on the international stage but also prove that continuous investment and support for the e-sports industry have yielded proud results.
