MADANI Government Pledges Sustainable Prosperity and Autonomy for Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR, El Sky News – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed the MADANI Government’s unwavering commitment to transforming Sarawak into a high-growth economic powerhouse. Through a combination of strategic green energy investments, the fulfillment of historical constitutional rights, and inclusive social welfare, the administration aims to ensure that the state’s progress directly benefits its people.

Driving the Green Economy

Central to this vision is Sarawak’s emergence as a regional leader in renewable energy. The Prime Minister highlighted several key milestones, including the RM184 million Batang Ai floating solar project and significant hydrogen energy ventures backed by international investors from Japan, South Korea, and Europe.

“Strategic investments in green hydrogen, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced logistics are not just numbers on a balance sheet; they are the engines creating high-skilled jobs for the youth of Sarawak,” Anwar stated in a recent update. He noted that the Kuching-Bintulu-Miri corridor is being positioned as a hub for semiconductors, aerospace, and methanol industries.

Upholding MA63 and Resource Rights

The Prime Minister emphasized that economic growth must go hand-in-hand with political equity. The federal government is accelerating the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), focusing on:

  • Restoring Autonomy: Ongoing negotiations regarding administrative authority over education and healthcare.
  • Resource Management: Strengthening the role of Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (PETROS) in collaboration with PETRONAS to ensure a more transparent and fair distribution of oil and gas revenues.
  • Equal Partnership: Formally recognizing Sarawak’s status as an equal partner within the Federation of Malaysia.

Social Welfare and Housing

Addressing the cost of living remains a priority. The government is expanding social safety nets, such as the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), specifically targeting rural communities in Sarawak’s vast interior.

To tackle the housing needs of the younger generation, the government has introduced “Step-Up Financing” schemes and expanded the People’s Housing Program (PRR), making homeownership more accessible for first-time buyers.

A Future-Forward Vision

By aligning state initiatives with federal support under the slogan “Prosperous Sarawak, Prosperous Malaysia,” the Prime Minister expressed confidence that the state is on a definitive path toward sustainability.

“The transformation for the people of Sarawak is not a distant promise—it is happening now,” Anwar remarked, underscoring that these initiatives are designed to build a legacy for future generations.
