Order Restored in Kota Bharu: 12 Detained Following Public Market Altercation in Kelantan

KOTA BHARU, El Sky News – Authorities in Kelantan have successfully restored order at the Pasar Awam Melor (Melor Public Market) after a physical altercation broke out between two groups on Thursday afternoon. The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) confirmed that 12 individuals have been detained to assist in investigations, ensuring that public safety remains a top priority in the local community.

The incident, which took place around 2:30 PM, reportedly stemmed from a misunderstanding between two women. The disagreement unfortunately escalated, involving several family members before being brought under control by quick-thinking members of the public and arriving police officers.

A Swift Response for Public Peace Kota Bharu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud, stated that the arrests were made following a report lodged by a 19-year-old woman involved in the incident. Those detained include five men and seven women, ranging in age from their 20s to late 50s.

“Our primary goal is to maintain the peace and safety of public spaces,” ACP Mohd Rosdi said in an official statement. “We have initiated a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the disagreement and to ensure that such disruptions do not recur.”

Legal Procedures and Community Care The case is currently being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting in a public place. While a 1-minute 29-second video of the incident went viral on social media, authorities have requested the public to remain calm and avoid further speculation to allow the legal process to unfold smoothly.
