JDT Asserts Dominance with Decisive 2-0 Victory Over Rivals Selangor FC

KELANA JAYA, El Sky News – Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) continued their relentless march toward another league title after securing a commanding 2-0 victory against arch-rivals Selangor FC at the MBPJ Stadium on Sunday night.

The highly anticipated “Super Sunday” clash saw the Southern Tigers extend their lead at the top of the Malaysia Super League standings, leaving the Red Giants 12 points adrift in the title race.

Early Breakthrough

The visitors wasted no time establishing control. Just seven minutes into the first half, JDT silenced the home crowd when Nacho Mendez found the back of the net. Capitalizing on a defensive lapse, Mendez clinical finish gave Hector Bidoglio’s side an early cushion and forced Selangor to abandon their conservative tactical setup.

Defensive Resilience and Late Surge

Despite being a goal down, Selangor FC attempted to fight back through creative sparks from their midfield. However, JDT’s defensive line, marshaled by veteran leadership, remained impenetrable. The Red Giants struggled to register significant shots on target, often thwarted by JDT’s high-pressing system.

As the match approached its conclusion, the league’s top marksman, Bergson Da Silva, put the result beyond doubt. In the final minutes of regulation time, the Brazilian striker showcased his trademark predatory instincts to double the lead, ensuring all three points headed back to Johor.

Championship Outlook

With this result, JDT remains unbeaten this season, amassing 48 points from 16 matches. For Selangor, the defeat is a significant blow to their championship aspirations, as they now sit on 36 points, facing increasing pressure from third-placed Terengganu FC.

“We knew coming to Kelana Jaya would be a challenge, but the early goal gave us the rhythm we needed,” said a JDT spokesperson after the match. “The focus remains on consistency as we head into the final stretch of the season.”
