KPM Announces Extra School Holidays for 2026 Aidilfitri Celebration

KUALA LUMPUR – The Ministry of Education (KPM) has officially declared two additional school holidays in conjunction with the upcoming Aidilfitri festivities. This move, integrated into the 2026 Academic Calendar, ensures that students and educators across Malaysia can enjoy an extended break as the festive season coincides with the first term holidays.

According to the official schedule, the duration and start dates of these holidays vary depending on the two state groupings—Group A and Group B.

Group A: Early Festive Break

For schools in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu, the holiday period begins slightly earlier. Students in these states will start their break on March 19. Following the festive addition, the official First Term holiday will run for nine days, spanning from March 20 to March 28.

Group B: Extended Weekend Transition

Schools in the remaining states and territories—including Selangor, Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Pulau Pinang, Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territories (Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya)—will receive two extra days on March 19 and 20. This group will then transition into their First Term break, which is scheduled from March 21 to March 29.

The alignment of the festive holidays with the end-of-term break is expected to ease travel plans for families heading back to their hometowns (balik kampung), providing a substantial window for celebration and rest before the second term commences.
