Brighton Crush Chelsea 3-0, The Blues Continue to Slide

Kuala Lumpur – Brighton & Hove Albion delivered another impressive performance as they comfortably defeated Chelsea 3-0 in a Premier League clash at the American Express Community Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Seagulls took the lead as early as the 3rd minute when Ferdi Kadioglu side-footed home from a corner that was flicked on. Chelsea failed to register a single shot on target throughout the entire first half, leaving them under constant pressure.

One of Chelsea’s best opportunities in the opening period came when goalkeeper Robert Sanchez mishit a pass straight to Carlos Baleba, but Jack Hinshelwood’s tame effort was cleared off the line by Trevoh Chalobah.

After the break, Chelsea attempted a comeback by introducing Alejandro Garnacho as a substitute. The Argentine immediately created a chance for Romeo Lavia, but the midfielder blazed his shot over the bar.

Brighton doubled their advantage in the 56th minute through a swift counter-attack. Georginio Rutter delivered a perfect pass to Jack Hinshelwood, who made amends for his earlier miss by firing home the second goal.

Substitute Danny Welbeck sealed the victory with a late third goal in stoppage time (90+1′), ensuring a comprehensive 3-0 win for the home side.

The result lifted Brighton to sixth place in the Premier League table with 50 points, moving two points above Chelsea. Meanwhile, Chelsea suffered their fifth consecutive league defeat without scoring a single goal — their worst run since 1912. They have won just one of their last nine league matches and now face the real threat of missing out on European football next season.

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior did not hold back in his post-match comments.

“It’s nowhere near enough for this club. I can’t come out and lie — I’ll tell the truth. That was an unacceptable performance in every area,” he said.

“It’s a really, really difficult night — the most difficult night in my career, because some of the things I was witnessing today I never, ever want to see again.”

Rosenior now faces a huge challenge to lift his squad ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United, a match that could define their season.

For Brighton, this convincing victory provides further momentum as they push confidently towards a strong finish in the top half of the table.
