Fiery Ferrari Crash on Johor Bahru-Mersing Highway Kills Two Singaporeans in Tragic Accident

KUALA LUMPUR, May, 2026 — A devastating road tragedy unfolded in Johor after two Singaporean nationals lost their lives when the Ferrari they were travelling in crashed and caught fire along the Johor Bahru-Mersing highway on Saturday morning. Authorities described the incident as a fatal single-vehicle accident that occurred at Kilometre 57.5 of Jalan Johor Bahru-Mersing, near Kota Tinggi.

According to Kota Tinggi District Police Chief Superintendent Yusof Othman, police received an emergency report from members of the public at approximately 9:00 AM regarding a luxury sports car engulfed in flames following a crash. Preliminary investigations indicated that the vehicle was travelling toward Mersing when the accident occurred.

The victims were identified as 34-year-old Yeo Tian Wen Leong, who was driving the vehicle, and 33-year-old Ng Puay Ying, who was seated in the front passenger seat. Both victims sustained severe injuries and burns after the vehicle burst into flames and were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

Ferrari Reportedly Lost Control Before Catching Fire

Authorities believe the Ferrari may have lost control before skidding and crashing, eventually bursting into flames moments after impact. While the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation, police have yet to confirm whether speed, road conditions, or mechanical issues contributed to the fatal crash.

Videos circulating on social media reportedly showed the sports car engulfed in flames by the roadside, with thick black smoke visible from a distance as bystanders and fellow motorists gathered near the scene. Some reports indicated that several other luxury vehicles stopped nearby following the incident.

Police Investigation Underway

The bodies of the deceased were transported to the Forensic Unit of Kota Tinggi Hospital for post-mortem examinations as authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Police confirmed that the case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of Malaysia’s Road Transport Act 1987, which covers offences related to reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death.

Under Malaysian law, individuals found guilty under this section may face imprisonment of between five and ten years, fines ranging from RM20,000 to RM50,000, and suspension or disqualification of driving privileges for a minimum period of five years.

Road Safety Concerns Resurface

The fatal accident has once again drawn public attention to road safety, particularly involving high-performance vehicles travelling on long-distance highways. Following the incident, the Kota Tinggi District Police Headquarters urged motorists to remain vigilant, obey speed limits, and comply with traffic regulations to ensure safety for all road users.

The tragedy has also sparked discussions online, with many expressing condolences to the victims’ families while urging stronger awareness regarding safe driving practices, especially on intercity roads known for sharp bends and varying traffic conditions.

As investigations continue, authorities are expected to release additional findings to determine the exact sequence of events leading to one of Johor’s most shocking road accidents this week.
