Kuantan, El Sky News – Tourism Malaysia East Region has intensified efforts to strengthen collaboration between government agencies, tourism industry players, and the media through the launch of its strategic program, SWING 2025. This new initiative is designed not only to foster stronger relationships but also to position golf tourism as a high-value segment capable of generating substantial revenue for the nation.
The SWING 2025 program takes a relaxed approach by using golf courses as an interactive platform, combining a golf tournament with a familiarisation trip (fam trip). The aim is to provide firsthand exposure for industry players and media representatives to the potential of golf clubs and tourism destinations across Malaysia’s East Coast.
Tourism Malaysia East Region Director, Mohd. Azizul Arif Yahaya, emphasized that this approach demonstrates how strategic networking and planning activities need not be confined to meeting rooms or seminar halls.
“We want every participant — whether from government agencies, tour operators, or the media — to experience the products firsthand, identify suitable markets, and develop new and attractive tourism packages, particularly within the golf tourism segment,” he said.
Malaysia currently boasts over 220 international-standard golf courses, making golf tourism a promising niche with annual revenue generation worth hundreds of millions of Ringgit. The sector continues to show strong and stable growth potential, contributing to the diversification and resilience of Malaysia’s tourism economy.
