UPKO Declares Support for Hajiji as Sabah Chief Minister

Sabah, El Sky News – UPKO confirmed its backing for Hajiji Noor to continue leading Sabah after the 2025 state election, announcing the decision on 30 November 2025 at Istana Seri Kinabalu. The party’s three winning assemblymen from Kadamaian, Tamparuli, and Moyog joined president Ewon Benedick to formalize their support, emphasizing the importance of a stable state administration under a locally driven coalition.

Ewon stated that UPKO’s alignment with Hajiji reflects the party’s commitment to strengthening Sabah’s political stability and advancing long-term state interests, particularly in matters related to MA63 and local autonomy. He added that supporting a Sabah-based leadership is crucial for ensuring policies remain focused on the needs of the people.

Political observers noted that UPKO’s endorsement gives Hajiji additional momentum in securing a comfortable majority to form the next state government. With GRS leading the seat count, the inclusion of UPKO’s representatives further solidifies prospects for a cohesive local coalition.

UPKO expressed optimism that the new administration will deliver stronger development policies and restore greater rights for Sabah, while urging the public to unite behind a government committed to a “Sabah First” direction.
