Proton Men’s Health Day: Dr. Norsabihin Mohd Salleh Delivers Essential Cardiovascular Health Seminar for Employees

Tanjung Malim, El Sky News – During the Proton Men’s Health Day held on 3 December, Dr. Norsabihin Mohd Salleh, Consultant General Physician in Cardiovascular and Endocrine Medicine, participated as one of the key speakers representing Selgate Healthcare. Her session focused on raising awareness of cardiovascular disease, preventive health practices, and the importance of early detection among employees—aligning closely with the event’s theme of promoting a healthier and safer workforce.

Throughout the seminar, Dr. Norsabihin emphasized that heart disease remains one of the leading causes of mortality in Malaysia, particularly among men aged 41 to 59. Drawing from national health data, she explained that conditions such as ischaemic heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol continue to contribute significantly to premature death. She stressed the importance of yearly health screenings for individuals aged 30 and above, noting that early detection of chronic conditions plays a crucial role in preventing complications.

Dr. Norsabihin also outlined several modifiable risk factors commonly seen in the community, including smoking, vaping, obesity, unmanaged stress, physical inactivity, and unhealthy dietary habits. Using clear visuals and real clinical examples, she described how narrowed coronary vessels can lead to heart attacks, the early warning signs of cardiac emergencies, and the dangers of ignoring symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, numbness, dizziness, or fatigue. She urged employees to seek immediate medical care if these signs appear, highlighting that delayed treatment significantly increases long-term complications.

In addition to cardiovascular education, she provided guidance on lifestyle management, including balanced nutrition, understanding the “suku-suku separuh” meal concept recommended by Malaysia’s Ministry of Health, maintaining an exercise routine of at least 150 minutes per week, managing pre-existing conditions, and practicing effective stress management. She also discussed mental health considerations, noting how uncontrolled stress contributes to cardiac risk and overall wellbeing.

As a representative of Selgate Specialist Hospital, Dr. Norsabihin highlighted the availability of wellness screening services and comprehensive cardiac assessments at Selgate facilities, encouraging Proton employees to take proactive steps in monitoring their health. Her session was well received by attendees, many of whom expressed appreciation for the clarity of her explanations and the relevance of her insights to daily work and lifestyle demands.

With her extensive clinical background and commitment to community health education, Dr. Norsabihin’s seminar became one of the central components of Proton Men’s Health Day. Her participation reinforced the event’s mission to empower employees with practical knowledge to safeguard their cardiovascular health and adopt sustainable habits for long-term wellbeing.
