Tragedy of Two Siblings: Man Hacked to Death by Elder Brother in Sandakan

SANDAKAN, El Sky News – The harmony of a family in Bandar Karamunting, here, was shattered when a man was found dead in a pool of blood in his bedroom, allegedly after being hacked by his own elder brother in a tragic incident last Sunday.

The victim, aged 43, was found lifeless by his mother who had just returned home around 5:30 PM. The mother, attempting to enter her son’s room, found the door blocked before she was shocked to see her son’s body covered in blood.

Sandakan District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner George Abd Rakman, confirmed the heartbreaking incident involving two biological siblings. According to him, initial investigations found that only the victim and the suspect were in the house when the incident occurred.

Swift Arrest, Weapons Seized

Prompt action by the authorities led to the arrest of the suspect, a 44-year-old man, just hours after the incident, at 8:45 PM on the same day.

The arrest of the suspect, who is the victim’s elder brother, also led to the discovery of several important items believed to have been used in the heinous crime.

“The suspect has been detained and led to the discovery of blood-stained trousers and three parang (machetes) suspected to be the weapons used during the incident,” said ACP George Abd Rakman in a media statement.

The victim reportedly sustained severe injuries from sharp weapon hackings on several parts of his body, including the head, behind the ear, abdomen, and hands. A post-mortem examination is currently being conducted to confirm the actual cause of death.

Motive and Suspect’s Background Under Investigation

The police also revealed that the suspect is suspected of having mental health issues and was reported to be unemployed. The suspect lived with his family in the house.

ACP George Abd Rakman added that the motive behind this murder is still under deep investigation. The case has been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Furthermore, early information from neighbours also revealed that they had heard a ‘groaning’ sound on Friday morning (before Sunday), but did not suspect it was a sign of a serious, life-taking incident.

The police urge the public who have any information related to this incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
