NORTH JAKARTA, El Sky News – A shocking incident occurred at State Elementary School (SDN) 01 Kalibaru, Cilincing, North Jakarta, on Thursday morning, when a nutritious food transporter van (MBG) suddenly rammed into the school assembly area, injuring a number of students.
The incident, which happened around 6:30 AM West Indonesia Time (WIB), was confirmed to have taken place while students were gathered for morning activities on the school field. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage shows the white van veering in and hitting the rows of students who were sitting in the area.
Victim Status and Swift Action
Immediately after the incident, the atmosphere at the school became chaotic. Teachers, school staff, and members of the public quickly provided assistance and worked to extract the students trapped under the vehicle.
Several injured students were lifted and rushed to a nearby hospital using ambulances and private vehicles for immediate treatment.
Visuals from the hospital show the victims receiving treatment, with some placed on gurney beds with injuries requiring intensive monitoring.
Police Investigation and Driver Detention
Authorities, specifically the police, reportedly arrived at the location immediately to conduct a detailed investigation into the actual cause of the accident.
The driver of the MBG transporter van involved in the incident has been detained by the police for questioning.
As of now, the police are actively conducting a data collection process to ascertain the actual number of victims and the level of injuries sustained by each student.
According to several witnesses, the van is believed to have experienced a technical problem or driver negligence. An individual at the scene voiced dissatisfaction, questioning why a vehicle suspected of having issues was allowed to move, let alone enter a school area filled with students.
This tragic incident has raised serious questions regarding the safety procedures for vehicles bringing supplies into school areas, especially during assembly time, as well as the roadworthiness of vehicles used for official food supply programs.
The school and related agencies are expected to issue an official statement soon regarding additional safety measures that will be taken to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
