Kuala Lumpur – The US Department of State has announced it will issue a limited-edition passport featuring the image of President Donald Trump as part of the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in July 2026. This makes Trump the first living president to have his image appear in an official US travel document.
According to State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott, the new passport is specially designed to commemorate this historic milestone. “As the United States celebrates the 250th anniversary of its founding in July 2026, the Department of State is proud to issue a specially designed limited-edition US passport,” he said. The passport will retain full security features and will be issued at no extra cost.
Based on the shared mock-up, President Trump’s portrait appears on the front page of the passport, surrounded by text from the Declaration of Independence and the American flag, with his signature printed in gold ink at the bottom. Another page features a painting of the Founding Fathers signing the Declaration of Independence. The back cover of the passport has also been redesigned with the 1777 version of the American flag incorporating the number “250”.
This move is the latest in a series of initiatives by the Trump administration to feature his image and signature on official government items for the America250 celebrations. Previously, Trump’s signature was reported to appear on dollar bills, while his image will also be used on national park passports and commemorative coins.
Regular US passports typically feature historical images such as the Moon Landing and the Statue of Liberty. However, this limited edition breaks tradition by including personal elements of the current president. The number of these special passports is expected to be limited, and they will begin issuance this summer.
The announcement has drawn wide international attention as the US passport is a globally recognized travel document, usually valid for 10 years.
