President Prabowo Orders Home Affairs Minister to Dismiss South Aceh Regent

Indonesia, El Sky News — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has formally ordered the Minister of Home Affairs to dismiss the Regent of South Aceh, following a comprehensive evaluation by the central government into local political dynamics, administrative performance, and governance issues in the region.

The directive was issued around December 9–10, 2025, after President Prabowo reviewed official reports submitted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, internal government oversight bodies, and inputs from multiple stakeholders regarding the condition of governance in South Aceh Regency.

Performance Review and Political Stability Concerns

According to sources within the government, the decision was based on a thorough assessment of the regent’s performance, including public service delivery, budget management, and the ability to maintain political and social stability at the local level.

In recent months, South Aceh has reportedly experienced heightened political tensions, policy controversies, and growing public dissatisfaction over administrative coordination and public services. The situation was deemed to require decisive intervention from the central government to prevent broader instability and disruptions to regional development.

“President Prabowo emphasized that regional leaders must demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and a strong commitment to public service. Failure to meet these standards will result in firm action by the central government,” a government source familiar with the matter stated.

Role of the Ministry of Home Affairs

Following the presidential directive, the Ministry of Home Affairs has been instructed to immediately initiate the legal and administrative procedures required under Indonesian law. The dismissal process will proceed in accordance with existing regulations governing regional leadership oversight.

The ministry is also preparing to appoint an Acting Regent (Plt.) of South Aceh to ensure continuity in governance, particularly in public services, budget implementation, and coordination with the central government.

Strong Signal from the Central Government

The move is widely viewed as a strong signal of the administration’s commitment to enforcing discipline, accountability, and good governance across regional administrations. The central government has reiterated that it will not hesitate to act against local leaders who fail to uphold principles of transparency, efficiency, and public trust.

Political analysts note that the decision reflects President Prabowo’s leadership approach, which prioritizes national stability, administrative performance, and tangible results, especially in regions with special governance frameworks such as Aceh.

Local Political Impact

As of this report, there has been no official response from the South Aceh Regent regarding the dismissal order. However, the development is expected to influence local political dynamics, including relations between the regional government, the local legislative council, and civil society groups.

The central government hopes the move will serve as a turning point for improved governance in South Aceh, enabling faster resolution of ongoing regional challenges and restoring public confidence in local administration.
