Malaysia Higher Education Plan (PPTM) 2026–2035 to Launch in January: Driving Higher Education towards Greater Global Competitiveness

PUTRAJAYA, El Sky News – The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) has confirmed that the Malaysia Higher Education Plan (PPTM) 2026–2035 will be officially launched next January. This 10-year master plan, which will serve as a long-term roadmap, aims to overhaul and empower the nation’s higher education system.

The core focus of PPTM 2026–2035 is to ensure the local higher education system remains relevant, competitive, and resilient on the global stage. This strategic plan is designed to face future challenges and ensure that Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) can meet the ever-changing needs of the economy and society.

Two Main Pillars: AI and Human Values

PPTM 2026–2035 is built on two main pillars as its strong foundation.

  • The first pillar focuses on technological advancement, specifically the integration of technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the curriculum and HEI operations.
  • The second pillar emphasizes the development of human values. The goal is to produce graduates who are not only highly knowledgeable but also ethical and morally upright, thus capable of becoming responsible nation builders.

Inclusivity and Flexible Pathways

KPT also plans to enhance inclusivity within the PPTM. This includes designing more flexible pathways for the entry of STPM (Malaysian Higher School Certificate) and Matriculation graduates into HEIs.

Additionally, the plan will emphasize efforts to expand high-impact programs that are relevant to current and future industry needs, ensuring the quality of education is continuously improved.

Graduate Employability Rate Remains High

Despite the renewal phase, KPT also reported existing success in ensuring graduates find placements in the job market. The latest data shows that the graduate employability rate remains high, approaching 90% within six months of graduation.

KPT reaffirms its commitment to continuously strengthen the alignment of talent produced by HEIs with the actual needs of the industry, ensuring graduates remain relevant and prepared to face global career challenges.
