BANGKOK, El Sky News – The curtains have officially fallen on the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, marking the beginning of a new chapter as Malaysia prepares to take the mantle for the 34th edition of the regional multi-sport event in 2027.
The handover ceremony took place during the grand closing event at the Rajamangala Stadium on Saturday. In a symbolic gesture, the Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) flag was presented to Malaysia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari, and the President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria.
To celebrate its upcoming role as host, Malaysia showcased a vibrant cultural segment titled “Rhythm of Harmony.” The performance featured renowned local artists, including Marsha Milan, Amir Jahari, and Mimi Fly, offering a glimpse into the diverse heritage and hospitality that athletes and fans can expect in 2027.
Malaysia concluded its 2025 campaign in Bangkok with a commendable performance, securing fourth place in the overall medal tally. The national contingent brought home a total of 231 medals, consisting of 57 gold, 57 silver, and 117 bronze. Host nation Thailand emerged as the overall champion of the games.
Looking forward, Malaysia is planning a decentralized approach for the 2027 SEA Games. The event is expected to be hosted across four major regions: Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Penang, and Johor.
