A Milestone for Commuters: LRT3 Enters Final Integration Phase as Klang Valley Prepares for a Transport Revolution

SHAH ALAM, El Sky News – Prasarana Malaysia Berhad has officially announced that the LRT3 Shah Alam Line, a major rail project connecting Bandar Utama to Johan Setia, has entered its final phase of full system integration testing. This critical “Home Stretch” marks the transition toward commercial operations, bringing millions of residents in the Klang Valley one step closer to a faster, greener, and more connected daily commute.

The testing phase is being conducted with a high level of precision to ensure that the driverless train system—one of the most advanced in the region—meets the highest global safety and reliability benchmarks before its highly anticipated public opening.

Ensuring a Seamless Passenger Journey The current testing focus is on the Fault-Free Run (FFR) and the seamless integration of rail services with ground transportation. Key objectives of this phase include:

  • System Automation Safety: Rigorous checks of the driverless signaling and communication systems to ensure stable operations at speeds of up to 80-90 km/h.
  • First and Last-Mile Connectivity: Testing the integration of stations with feeder bus services to ensure passengers have smooth transitions from their homes to the platforms.
  • Station Readiness: Finalizing safety features, ticketing systems, and accessibility facilities across all 20 active stations (and 5 provisional stations) along the 37-kilometer route.

A Commitment to Excellence Prasarana has emphasized that “Safety First” remains the core philosophy of this project. While the public is eager to step on board, the authorities are prioritizing stability in the software and signaling systems to prevent any technical glitches once full service begins.

“The objective of these intensive trials is to identify and resolve any potential issues early on,” a project spokesperson stated. “We are building a system that is not only modern but also dependable for decades to come.”

Key Highlights of the LRT3 Project:

  • Major Connectivity Hub: The line features crucial interchanges at Bandar Utama (Kajang MRT) and Glenmarie (Kelana Jaya LRT), creating a unified rail network.
  • Massive Capacity: Once operational, the line is expected to serve over 2 million residents, with the capacity to carry up to 39,000 passengers per hour.
  • Economic and Social Impact: By reducing road congestion in heavy traffic corridors like the Federal Highway and New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), the LRT3 is set to improve productivity and quality of life for thousands.
  • Sustainable Future: The new 3-car train sets are equipped with green technology, aligning with Malaysia’s goals for low-carbon urban mobility.

Looking Ahead to 2026 As the testing moves toward its conclusion in early 2026, Prasarana and the Ministry of Transport have assured the public that a definitive launch date will be announced once the system demonstrates consistent, fault-free performance. This cautious but proactive approach has been welcomed by industry experts as a sign of a mature and responsible public transport authority.

The arrival of the LRT3 is not just the addition of a new train line; it is a “Gateway to Convenience” that promises to redefine how the people of Shah Alam, Klang, and Petaling Jaya move, work, and connect.
