‘For the People’ Slogan Dismissed as Empty Rhetoric by Veteran Politician

KUALA LUMPUR, El Sky News – Former Cheras UMNO Division Chief, Datuk Seri Syed Ali Alhabshee, has issued a scathing critique of the country’s political landscape, labeling the frequently used “for the people” slogan as nothing more than a facade for self-interest.

The Core Issue In a strongly worded statement on Sunday, Syed Ali expressed his disillusionment with political actors and lobbyists whom he describes as being more obsessed with securing positions and power than genuinely serving the public. He argued that while the “welfare of the people” is often cited to justify political maneuvers, the citizens themselves are rarely consulted or considered in major decision-making processes.

Culture of Deception The veteran politician further alleged that a culture of blatant dishonesty has permeated the political sphere. He noted that betrayal and political backstabbing have become normalized tools for those seeking to climb the ladder of authority.

“Tactics such as character assassination, instigation, and various forms of manipulation—even against allies—are being validated just to reach the pinnacle of power,” he stated.

Misuse of Identity Politics Syed Ali also voiced his regret over parties that claim to champion Malay supremacy and Islamic values but have lost their moral compass. He pointed out a growing trend where the pursuit of wealth overshadows the core principles of their struggle, often ignoring the boundaries of ethics and integrity. He warned that the public is being distracted by “sweet promises” and repetitive narratives designed to mask the actual failures of leadership.

A Call for Responsibility Looking ahead, Syed Ali emphasized that politicians should cease perpetual politicking aimed at destabilizing the sitting government. Instead, he urged them to collaborate on national development and maintain racial harmony.

“Political strategies and efforts to form a government should only be mobilized during the General Election (GE) period, as sanctioned by the Constitution,” he added.

Conclusion Ultimately, Syed Ali believes that voters will have the final say. He warned that the current state of political instability and lack of direction will lead to a “punishment” at the ballot box in the next General Election, provided the electorate remains vigilant and understands their power as voters. He reminded those in power that leadership is a sacred trust and a responsibility granted by Divine will.
