Kinabatangan and Lamag By-Elections: Over 48,000 Voters Set to Cast Ballots Tomorrow

KINABATANGAN, El Sky News – A total of 48,526 registered voters for the Kinabatangan Parliamentary constituency and 13,703 for the Lamag State Assembly seat are expected to head to the polls tomorrow to elect their new representatives.

The Election Commission (EC) has prepared 36 polling centers with 117 polling streams, which will be open starting at 7:30 AM. While major centers will remain open until 5:30 PM, 25 smaller centers in rural areas are scheduled to close earlier, between 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM, to facilitate logistical arrangements.

The by-elections were called following the passing of the long-serving incumbent, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, on December 5 last year. The official vote counting process will be centralized at the Sri Lamag Hall.

In the Kinabatangan Parliamentary race, a three-cornered battle is unfolding between Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar (Barisan Nasional), Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman (Warisan), and independent candidate Goldam Hamid. Meanwhile, the Lamag state seat sees a straight fight between Barisan Nasional’s Mohd Ismail Ayob and Warisan’s Mazliwati Abdul Malek.

Earlier this week, the EC reported a high turnout for early voting, with 93% of the 176 police personnel involved casting their ballots on Tuesday. All five candidates are also expected to cast their votes at their respective polling stations throughout the district tomorrow morning.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecasted clear weather for the morning session, though thunderstorms and rain are anticipated in the afternoon and evening. Voters are advised to plan their trips early to avoid the predicted bad weather.
