KUALA LUMPUR – AMD has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated Steam Machines, powered by its high-performance processing units, will begin shipping to consumers early this year.
The announcement marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between hardware manufacturers and Valve, the creator of the Steam platform. These gaming consoles are designed to bring the vast library of Steam games directly into the living room, offering a PC-level gaming experience in a compact, console-like form factor.
A spokesperson from AMD stated that the new Steam Machines will leverage advanced graphics and processing technology to ensure seamless gameplay and high-fidelity visuals. “We are excited to see these units reaching the hands of gamers. Our partnership ensures that the hardware is optimized for the SteamOS, providing a powerful and efficient gaming ecosystem,” the spokesperson added.
Steam Machines aim to bridge the gap between traditional console gaming and PC gaming by utilizing an open Linux-based operating system. This allows for greater customization and flexibility compared to standard gaming consoles. Several hardware partners have integrated AMD’s latest chipsets to meet the demanding requirements of modern AAA titles.
With shipments starting this quarter, the gaming industry is closely watching how Steam Machines will impact the competitive landscape currently dominated by established console giants.
