KUALA LUMPUR – A devastating fire swept through a coastal settlement in Kampung Teluk Jawa early Thursday morning, leaving dozens of families homeless after 30 houses were reduced to ashes.
The blaze, which broke out at a water village near Jalan Dedaru 11, was reported to the authorities at approximately 7:04 AM. Despite the rapid spread of the flames through the densely packed neighborhood, officials confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries reported.
Emergency Response
The Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) spearheaded the emergency operation. Station Chief Firdaus Ahmad stated that a team of 28 personnel and three fire engines were dispatched immediately upon receiving the distress call.
Upon arrival, firefighters were met with a fierce inferno fueled by the highly flammable materials of the settlement.
“The fire affected temporary structures primarily built with wooden walls, plank flooring, and zinc roofing,” Ahmad said in a statement. “The intensity of the flames resulted in the destruction of about 90 percent of the 30 houses involved.”
Damage Assessment
Beyond the loss of residential property, the fire also claimed several vehicles and assets essential to the local community’s livelihood. The preliminary damage report includes:
- 30 houses destroyed.
- 2 boats lost.
- 1 car and 6 motorcycles burned.
While the fire has been successfully contained, investigators are currently working to determine the exact cause of the spark. The local community and welfare departments are expected to begin coordinating relief efforts for the displaced residents who have lost nearly all their belongings in the tragedy.
