Bangladesh’s Newly Formed Government Set for Swearing-In Ceremony Tuesday

Bangladesh’s New Government to Be Sworn In Tuesday

Bangladesh is set to officially usher in a new political administration as the country’s newly elected government prepares to take the oath of office on Tuesday, marking the formal transition of power following the latest national parliamentary elections.

According to officials and party sources, the swearing-in ceremony will involve newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) as well as key cabinet members who will form the core leadership of the incoming administration. The oath-taking of MPs is scheduled to take place in the morning, followed by the cabinet swearing-in later in the day.

The ceremony is expected to be held at the South Plaza of the National Parliament complex in Dhaka — a notable departure from long-standing tradition. Historically, cabinet oath ceremonies have been conducted at the Darbar Hall of the presidential residence, Bangabhaban. This time, however, authorities have opted to host both the parliamentary and cabinet ceremonies at the parliament grounds.

Under constitutional procedure, the Chief Election Commissioner is expected to administer the oath to newly elected MPs. Once sworn in, the majority party in parliament will convene to elect its parliamentary leader. The elected leader will then meet the President to formally stake claim to form the government and be appointed as Prime Minister.

Following the Prime Minister’s appointment, the President will administer the oath of office to the head of government, cabinet ministers, state ministers, and deputy ministers. Afterward, the Cabinet Division will issue official notifications detailing ministerial portfolios and responsibilities within the new administration.

The formation of the new government comes after the conclusion of the country’s 13th national parliamentary elections, which resulted in a decisive parliamentary majority for the winning political alliance. The outcome paved the way for the establishment of a new executive leadership tasked with steering Bangladesh through its next phase of governance, policy reform, and national development.

Preparations for the swearing-in ceremony have been underway, with government bodies coordinating logistics, guest invitations, and security arrangements. Hundreds of dignitaries — including domestic political figures and foreign representatives — are expected to attend the official proceedings.

The transition is viewed as a significant political milestone for Bangladesh, reflecting both democratic continuity and a renewed mandate for governance. Public expectations remain high as the incoming administration prepares to address key national priorities, including economic management, institutional reforms, and international relations in the South Asian region.
