Police Investigating Alleged Plot to Topple Government and Undermine Stability

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is conducting a full investigation into allegations of a conspiracy aimed at toppling the Malaysian government and sabotaging national stability. The probe comes after a police report was lodged alleging that a “prominent local individual” was involved in efforts that could threaten the country’s parliamentary democracy.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed that the report was received and that investigators have opened a case paper under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which deals with activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy and carries a possible sentence of up to 20 years’ imprisonment upon conviction. The inquiry is being led by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (D5) of Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department.

According to claims in the lodged report, the alleged plot involved not only a well-known local influencer but also contacts with an international media agency, though specific names and organisations have not been publicly confirmed by authorities.

Authorities have urged the public not to spread speculation or unverified details while the investigation is ongoing, stressing that the process requires careful examination of all evidence and must be conducted professionally and transparently. PDRM has stated that any action will only be taken after a thorough review of all aspects of the case.

Legal and Government Response

The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has weighed in on the situation, emphasising the seriousness of the allegations and highlighting that anyone found involved in such activities must be held accountable regardless of their background or status. The AGC has pledged full cooperation with PDRM to ensure that investigations and any subsequent legal actions adhere strictly to the Federal Constitution and the rule of law.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has said it supports the police’s investigation, calling for it to be carried out thoroughly, professionally, and without interference. The MACC also noted that the matter has serious implications for national sovereignty and must be probed diligently.

Public and Government Stance

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil stated that the government is leaving the matter to the authorities, underscoring its gravity and the need to let law enforcement do its work. Government leaders have refrained from commenting on specifics of the allegations, urging Malaysians to allow due process to take place.
