KUALA LUMPUR, MAY, 2026 A Myanmar national has been formally charged in connection with the murder of his ex-wife following a stabbing incident that occurred at a condominium in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.

The accused, identified as Aung Tun Ngwa, 26, was brought before the Magistrate’s Court where the charge was read out to him. The case involves the death of his ex-wife, Merry Yet Ngwa, 33, who was also a Myanmar national.

The incident reportedly took place in front of Block 1 of Genting Court Condominium in Taman Setapak Indah Jaya at around 2.30pm on April 23, 2026.

Charge Under Section 302 for Murder

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, along with caning if the death sentence is not imposed.

During court proceedings, no plea was recorded from the accused as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court. The accused was reportedly unrepresented by legal counsel at the time of the hearing.

The court fixed a later date for case mention to allow further documentation and procedural follow-up.

Police Investigation and Post-Mortem Findings

According to initial police reports, authorities were alerted after a woman was found dead following a suspected stabbing incident at the condominium.

A post-mortem examination later confirmed that the victim died from stab wounds to the chest, indicating a violent assault as the cause of death.

Police investigations were subsequently launched to determine the circumstances leading to the incident, including the relationship between the suspect and the victim.

Victim and Suspect Relationship

Authorities confirmed that the victim and the accused were previously married but had since separated. The case is being treated as a domestic-related homicide, adding complexity to the investigation.

Investigators are also looking into the timeline of events leading up to the attack, including possible disputes or prior incidents between the two individuals.

No additional suspects have been reported in connection with the case at this stage.

Court Proceedings and Legal Process

Following standard legal procedure, the accused will remain under custody as the case progresses through the Malaysian judicial system.

Murder cases in Malaysia are handled under the High Court due to their severity, and proceedings typically involve detailed forensic, witness, and investigative evidence before trial.

The next court mention is expected to include updates on legal representation, case documents, and prosecution preparation.

Public Reaction and Safety Concerns

The incident has drawn public attention due to its violent nature and location within a residential condominium area.

Residents in Setapak have expressed concern over safety in high-density housing areas, particularly involving domestic disputes escalating into violent crime.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course while continuing to cooperate with ongoing investigations.

The case remains under active investigation as prosecutors prepare for the next stage of legal proceedings. Authorities are expected to present further evidence as the case moves toward High Court trial.

For now, the suspect remains in custody, and the judiciary will determine the next legal steps in the coming months.
