Trump Affirms US-Iran Ceasefire Still in Effect Despite Naval Clash in Strait of Hormuz

Kuala Lumpur – U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran remains in effect, despite a naval exchange of fire between the two nations in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday night local time. Both sides accused each other of provocation.

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said U.S. naval forces destroyed several small Iranian boats that attacked three American destroyers. He described the incident dramatically: “Those small boats went down so beautifully, like butterflies into their graves!” Trump also claimed significant damage was inflicted on the Iranian side.

“The ceasefire is still on, but if they don’t sign a peace deal quickly, we will hit them much harder and much more brutally in the future,” Trump said, calling Iran’s action “child’s play” that would not be tolerated.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) described the Iranian attack as “unprovoked.” Iran reportedly launched missiles, drones, and small boats targeting U.S. warships passing through the strait. The U.S. responded by striking Iranian military facilities, including missile and drone launch sites and command centers.

On the Iranian side, the military high command accused the U.S. of conducting airstrikes on an Iranian oil tanker and other vessels near the Strait of Hormuz, as well as attacking coastal areas in Bandar Khamir, Sirik, and Qeshm Island. Iran claimed it retaliated by hitting U.S. ships and causing “significant damage.”

The incident occurred just one day after Iran’s Foreign Ministry said it was considering a U.S. proposal to end the conflict. Tensions escalated further when the United Arab Emirates reported that its air defenses intercepted missiles and drones launched from Iran on Friday morning.

An Israeli source stated that Israel was not involved in the latest incident. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global oil shipping route, raising concerns about potential impacts on energy prices worldwide.

As of this report, both sides continue to claim victory while insisting that the official ceasefire has not collapsed. The situation in the Middle East remains highly tense and is being closely monitored by the international community.
