Russian Forces Exploit Harsh Weather to Advance Across Small Ukrainian Towns

UKRAINE, El Sky News – Russian forces are reportedly taking advantage of severe weather conditions sweeping through eastern Ukraine to strengthen their ground offensive across several small towns — including Pokrovsk, Donetsk, and Dnipro.

According to The Independent UK, heavy rain and freezing temperatures have turned the battlefields into thick mud, making it difficult for armored vehicles to maneuver. However, Russian troops have adapted by deploying motorcycles and alternative routes to bypass damaged roads and advance through terrain that Ukrainian troops find challenging to defend.

Ukrainian military sources confirmed that their units are now facing unexpected waves of attacks, particularly in previously quiet residential zones. Some frontline positions were forced to retreat temporarily to minimize losses.

Residents in Pokrovsk described the situation as “eerily silent but tense”, with artillery fire echoing nightly. Power outages and shortages of essential supplies have worsened, prompting thousands of civilians to flee toward safer regions.

Authorities in Ukraine are currently reinforcing defensive lines around Donetsk and Dnipro, while humanitarian agencies coordinate evacuations from high-risk zones. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), at least 15 civilians have been killed and dozens injured since the new wave of strikes began earlier this month.

Military analysts suggest that Moscow’s latest offensive is part of a broader strategy to secure tactical advantages before the full onset of winter, when combat operations typically slow due to freezing temperatures and logistical constraints.

The Russia–Ukraine war has now entered its fourth year, with tensions continuing to escalate despite repeated diplomatic efforts. Western nations have maintained military and financial support for Kyiv, while Russia seeks to consolidate control over eastern territories ahead of the next round of peace talks expected later this month.
