Selangor, El Sky News – Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has disclosed that he personally proposed Nurul Izzah Anwar as a potential successor to lead the state. He explained that the idea was shared during a recent podcast appearance, where he described the suggestion as a “good formula” that could avoid unnecessary perceptions of nepotism. According to Amirudin, he has already communicated the proposal directly to Nurul Izzah and emphasised that the decision rests entirely with her.
Despite the attention the proposal has received, federal leaders have clarified that it is not an official plan. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that the suggestion was solely Amirudin’s personal view and not a matter discussed at the government level. He also noted that several names are being considered for Selangor’s leadership, signalling that the process remains open and no final candidate has been selected.
Within PKR, Nurul Izzah continues to be a prominent figure with growing influence. Earlier this year, she secured firm backing from Selangor PKR leaders to contest the party’s deputy presidency, reflecting confidence in her leadership abilities. She has also publicly affirmed that any political decision she makes will prioritise the party’s direction and stability rather than personal ambition.
Overall, the idea of Nurul Izzah taking over as Menteri Besar remains a political possibility rather than a confirmed succession plan. While Amirudin’s endorsement adds momentum to the speculation, the final outcome will depend on party consensus, state considerations, and Nurul Izzah’s own decision regarding the role.
