KOTA KINABALU, El Sky News – Senior Sabah political leader Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin passed away early Thursday morning, 5 December 2025, at a private hospital in Kota Kinabalu. He was 66.
His death was confirmed by his son, who shared the news through a social media post at around 1:46 a.m. Bung Moktar had been receiving treatment for kidney failure and a severe lung infection prior to his passing. According to close sources, his condition had been critical in the days leading up to his death.
Bung Moktar was a long-serving figure in Malaysian politics. He had represented the Kinabatangan parliamentary constituency since 1999 and served as the state assemblyman for Lamag since 2020. He previously held key positions in the Sabah state government, including Deputy Chief Minister I and State Minister of Works.
Beyond his government roles, he was also known for his leadership within UMNO Sabah and Barisan Nasional, as well as his tenure as chairman of FELCRA Berhad from 2013 to 2018.
News of his death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from political allies and public figures. Many described him as a steadfast and outspoken leader who consistently defended his principles.
His body is expected to be brought to his family residence in Damai before funeral arrangements proceed.
With his passing, both the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat and the Lamag state seat are now vacant, likely triggering by-elections in the near future.
