Kuala Lumpur, El Sky News – Barisan Nasional (BN) has confirmed it has not finalized its choice of candidates for the upcoming by-elections in the Kinabatangan Parliamentary seat and the Lamag state seat. Both seats became vacant following the passing of Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
BN Chairman, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, stated that the coalition is focused on a strategy of consultation with other political parties contesting in the area. This approach, he explained, is aimed at safeguarding the welfare of the people and ensuring political stability across Sabah.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, noted that BN, now a component of the Federal Unity Government, is prepared to hold discussions not only with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) but also with other parties within the state government regarding the two vacant seats.
He further emphasized that the people are weary from a succession of previous elections. Consequently, engaging in consultations with all stakeholders is deemed the most suitable course of action to maintain political stability.
The Election Commission (EC) is scheduled to convene a special meeting shortly to manage the affairs of the Kinabatangan and Lamag by-elections, following Bung Moktar’s death on December 5.
