Kuala Lumpur, El Sky News – Travelers planning to use air services at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) from mid-December to early January are advised to arrive at the terminal much earlier than their scheduled flight time.
Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) has issued this important travel advisory in anticipation of a high surge in passengers, especially leading up to the school holiday season, Christmas celebrations, and the New Year holiday.
Peak Travel Period
The peak travel period that is the main focus of this advisory is from 19 December 2025 until 11 January 2026. This time usually sees a sharp increase in passenger traffic, causing congestion in check-in areas, security screening, and immigration counters.
“We strongly encourage all passengers traveling during this period to allocate extra time and arrive at KLIA at least four (4) hours before their scheduled departure time,” said an MAB spokesperson, emphasizing the importance of avoiding the risk of missing a flight.
Factors Contributing to Crowding and Smooth Processes
The crowding at KLIA is expected not only due to the increased number of tourists returning home or vacationing abroad but also because of time-consuming airport operation processes, including:
- Security Screening: The increase in luggage and passenger volume will extend the security screening time.
- Document Verification: Immigration processes and the verification of travel documents, including the requirement for foreigners to complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC), may slow down movement.
- Check-in: Although online check-in is encouraged, the baggage drop process still requires time at the available counters.
Recommended Guidelines and Alternatives
To ensure a smooth and stress-free travel experience, MAB recommends passengers to:
- Check-in Early (Online Check-in): Complete the check-in process via the airline’s app or website 48 hours before the flight.
- Use Self-Service Kiosks: Utilize the self-service check-in and baggage drop kiosks available at the terminal.
- Monitor Flight Status: Consistently check the flight status through official airline or airport channels.
Passengers are also reminded to ensure all travel documents, including passports and visas (if necessary), are valid and neatly organized before arriving at the airport.
This advisory is issued as a proactive measure by the airline to ensure the efficiency of flight operations and guarantee that every passenger can begin their holiday journey without any inconvenience.
