Major Seizure in Kelantan: General Operations Force Cripples Cigarette Smuggling Syndicate Worth RM2.8 Million

MACHANG, El Sky News – The General Operations Force (GOF) Southeast Brigade has successfully dismantled a major illicit tobacco smuggling operation, seizing untaxed cigarettes valued at over RM2.8 million. The operation, conducted under the ongoing Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan (OTWK), took place in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Machang district.

The Southeast Brigade GOF Commander, SAC Ahmad Radzi Hussain, confirmed that the breakthrough was achieved by Batalion 9 at approximately 6:30 AM. The raid targeted a suspicious vehicle located along Jalan Kampung Pek, following a period of strategic surveillance by the intelligence unit.

Precision Operations During a routine patrol, officers intercepted a red lorry that appeared to be traveling under suspicious circumstances. Upon a thorough inspection of the vehicle, authorities discovered a massive haul of brown boxes wrapped in transparent plastic. Further examination revealed approximately 1.5 million sticks of illicit white cigarettes.

“The estimated value of the seized tobacco is RM2,805,000,” SAC Ahmad Radzi stated in an official press release. “In addition to the contraband, the police seized the lorry, valued at RM80,000, and detained two local men, aged 45 and 53, to facilitate further investigations.”

Cutting Off Syndicate Networks The suspects and the seized assets have been transported to the Machang District Police Headquarters (IPD) Criminal Investigation Division. The case is currently being investigated under Section 135(1)(e) of the Customs Act 1967, which pertains to the conveying of prohibited goods.

SAC Ahmad Radzi emphasized that this operation is a significant win for regional security. “This success does not only curb smuggling activities but effectively disrupts the distribution networks of untaxed cigarette syndicates operating across the East Coast of the Peninsula,” he added.

A Commitment to Border Security The General Operations Force remains steadfast in its mission to monitor national borders and prevent the entry of illegal goods that undermine the local economy. Authorities have encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to help maintain a safe and law-abiding community.

The area of Jalan Kampung Pek has since returned to normalcy, while the GOF continues its heightened presence under Op Taring Wawasan to ensure the continued security of the state’s entry points.
