KUALA LUMPUR – The newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Kinabatangan, Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar, officially took his oath of office in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Official Induction
The swearing-in ceremony took place before the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Johari Abdul, just prior to the Minister’s Question Time session. The Speaker expressed his hope that Kurniawan would serve his constituents effectively and contribute meaningfully to national debates.
“I hope the Honorable Member will continue the legacy of his late father by providing dedicated service to the people,” said Tan Sri Johari, referring to the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
By-Election Victory
Kurniawan’s entry into Parliament follows his decisive victory in the Kinabatangan by-election held last Saturday. He secured a substantial majority of 14,214 votes in a three-cornered contest, defeating Warisan candidate Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman and an Independent candidate.
The by-election was triggered by the passing of the incumbent, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, on December 5 last year.
First Parliamentary Action
Wasting no time in his new role, Kurniawan raised his first question during the Minister’s Question Time. Addressing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, he inquired about the government’s strategies to attract foreign investments into rural areas, specifically highlighting the potential within the Kinabatangan constituency.
His proactive approach on his first day signals a commitment to prioritizing rural development and continuing the political representation of his region at the federal level.
