KUALA LUMPUR – A tragic incident claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy after he reportedly fell into a deep manhole at the Perumahan Peramu Jaya 3 area on Monday evening.
The victim, identified as Mohamad Alif Haikal Mohd Yusri, was found by a search and rescue (SAR) team a few hours after the initial distress call was made. It is understood that the teenager was playing near the area when the accident occurred.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Director of Operations, Ismail Abdul Ghani, stated that they received an emergency call regarding the incident at 7:22 PM. A team of seven personnel from the Pekan Fire and Rescue Station was immediately dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the team conducted a search operation within the manhole and the connecting sewage pipes. The victim’s body was eventually located inside the drainage system,” Ismail said in a statement.
He further explained that the boy’s body was recovered at 10:15 PM and was confirmed dead at the scene by medical officers. The remains have since been handed over to the police for further investigation and a post-mortem.
Local authorities are expected to investigate the safety conditions of the manhole and whether it was properly secured or covered at the time of the incident to prevent future tragedies.
