Advanced Surgical Care · Subspecialty Expertise · Comprehensive Support
The Department of Surgery at Selgate Specialist Hospital Rawang is proud to introduce a new era of advanced, patient-centered surgical care. Opening in September 2025, our department is built on a foundation of clinical excellence, cutting-edge technology, and multidisciplinary collaboration, ensuring that patients in Rawang and surrounding communities have access to top-tier surgical services closer to home.
Led by a team of fellowship-trained and highly experienced surgeons, each bringing specialized expertise across a wide range of surgical disciplines, we are fully committed to delivering safe, effective, and holistic care in a state-of-the-art environment designed with patient comfort in mind.
Comprehensive Surgical Services Across Specialties
Our Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgery unit provides expert management of esophageal and gastric diseases, including cancers, peptic ulcer complications, and functional disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and hiatal hernias. Conditions like achalasia and other motility disorders are diagnosed and monitored using our advanced Functional GI Laboratory. Treatment is carefully tailored to the patient’s specific condition and anatomy, often utilizing minimally invasive laparoscopic and endoscopic approaches to ensure faster recovery and shorter hospital stays.
In response to Malaysia’s rising rates of obesity and related metabolic conditions, our Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery program offers sustainable, long-term weight loss solutions that support overall health improvement. We provide laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, and revisional surgeries, all delivered within a comprehensive, multidisciplinary framework. Every patient is supported by a team of dietitians, physiotherapists, and mental health professionals to ensure a safe and successful journey from consultation through recovery.
In the area of Colorectal Surgery, we treat a wide spectrum of conditions, including colorectal cancer—one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in Malaysia—as well as diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, and various anorectal disorders like hemorrhoids, fissures, and fistula-in-ano. We also offer routine colonoscopy screenings and utilize 3D laparoscopic technology for precise, minimally invasive procedures that promote optimal outcomes and faster healing.
Our Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery service manages both routine and complex conditions involving the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, and pancreas. Among the most frequently performed procedures is laparoscopic cholecystectomy for gallstone disease and acute cholecystitis, which are highly prevalent in Malaysia. We also treat liver cysts, tumors, abscesses, bile duct injuries, and pancreatic disorders such as chronic pancreatitis and tumors. Every case is approached with a multidisciplinary lens, ensuring well-coordinated and evidence-based care.
The Vascular Surgery team addresses a broad range of vascular conditions, including varicose veins, peripheral arterial disease (PAD), diabetic foot complications, and dialysis-related vascular access. These conditions are increasingly common among Malaysia’s aging and diabetic population. Our surgeons provide both open surgical and minimally invasive endovascular interventions with a focus on restoring circulation, preserving limbs, and improving quality of life.
Our Breast and Endocrine Surgery unit offers comprehensive care for breast cancer, benign breast conditions, and endocrine diseases including thyroid nodules, goiters, and adrenal gland disorders. We prioritize individualized treatment planning that balances oncological safety with functional and aesthetic considerations. Oncoplastic and minimally invasive techniques are used whenever appropriate. Our team collaborates closely with oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists to ensure each patient receives a coordinated and compassionate care experience.
Surgical Precision Backed by World-Class Technology
To support our high standards of care, the department is equipped with some of the most advanced surgical technology available today. This includes the Karl Storz Rubina™ 4K 3D Laparoscopy System, which delivers ultra-high-definition, depth-enhanced visuals to improve surgical precision and safety. We also utilize the Olympus Exera III Endoscopy System, one of the latest innovations in gastrointestinal imaging, enabling early disease detection and high-quality therapeutic procedures.
Our Functional GI Laboratory includes high-resolution manometry and pH monitoring systems, essential for diagnosing and managing complex motility and reflux disorders. All procedures are performed in digitally integrated, modular operating theatres that feature HEPA-filtered air systems, real-time imaging, and enhanced surgical ergonomics—designed to support minimally invasive surgery and facilitate Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols.
As part of our commitment to continuous innovation and surgical advancement, we are actively planning the future acquisition of a modern robotic surgical system. This will further complement our current minimally invasive platforms, enabling even greater precision in complex procedures, particularly in colorectal, hepatobiliary, and oncologic surgeries. This forward-looking investment reflects our vision to position Selgate Specialist Hospital Rawang as a regional leader in high-tech, precision-guided surgery.
Multidisciplinary Allied Health Support for Holistic Recovery
At Selgate Specialist Hospital Rawang, we believe that surgery is only one part of the healing journey. That’s why we offer comprehensive allied health support to promote holistic recovery. Our physiotherapists play a vital role in both prehabilitation and post-operative rehabilitation, ensuring patients regain mobility, strength, and confidence after surgery. Dietitians provide tailored nutritional guidance for patients undergoing bariatric, gastrointestinal, or cancer-related procedures, as well as for those managing chronic illnesses such as diabetes.
We also offer specialized wound and stoma care nursing for patients recovering from colorectal, breast, and vascular surgeries, ensuring optimal post-operative healing. Additionally, our patients have access to mental health and counselling services, which are especially important for those undergoing transformative procedures such as bariatric surgery or complex cancer treatment.
