Malaysian Embassy in Cairo Issues Safety Advisory Amid Public Demonstrations in Egypt

KUALA LUMPUR, March 1, 2026 – The Embassy of Malaysia in Cairo has officially released a high-priority consular advisory, urging all Malaysian nationals currently residing in or visiting Egypt to exercise heightened vigilance. The warning comes in response to an increase in public demonstrations and a intensified presence of local security forces across several key locations in the country.

In a formal statement issued via its official communication channels, the Embassy emphasized that the safety of Malaysian citizens—ranging from students and expatriates to tourists—remains its utmost priority. The advisory serves as a preemptive measure to ensure that Malaysians are not inadvertently caught in escalating situations or legal complications.

The Embassy has outlined several critical protocols that all Malaysians must strictly adhere to while the current situation persists:

  • Avoidance of High-Risk Zones: All citizens are strongly advised to steer clear of areas known for public gatherings, protest sites, and any locations characterized by a heavy concentration of military or police personnel.
  • Mandatory Identification: It is now mandatory for Malaysians to carry original and valid identification documents at all times. This includes passports, residency visas, and student identification cards. The Embassy stressed that all documents must be current and not expired to avoid detention or questioning by local authorities.
  • Information Integrity and Digital Conduct: In a notable addition to the safety guidelines, the Embassy warned against the dissemination of unverified news. Citizens are urged to refrain from writing or sharing social media posts that could be interpreted as inciting unrest or interfering with local security elements. Under Egyptian law, such actions can lead to severe legal repercussions.

To facilitate rapid assistance during potential emergencies, the Embassy is calling on all Malaysians who have yet to register their presence in Egypt to do so immediately. Registration can be completed via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ e-Consular portal at https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my.

“By ensuring your details are updated in the e-Consular system, the Embassy can maintain a direct line of communication with you and provide necessary support should the security situation deteriorate further,” the notice stated.
